歐共體的新一籃子記帳單位被稱為歐洲貨幣記帳單位(ECU)，隨著1975年引入歐洲貨幣單位，奠定了歐洲貨幣單位的基礎。當1979年3月13日發起歐洲貨幣體系時，雖然歐洲記帳單位公式保持不變，但是加入了一項複審條款而且歐洲記帳單位(重新命名為歐洲貨幣單位)現為歐共體唯一的記帳單位；歐洲貨幣體系的中心要素，歐洲複合貨幣單位有一攬子歐共體歐洲單位和等額的歐洲記帳單位組成；每5年複審一次，或依照需要，任何一種貨幣的權術在25%以上的范圍變動。
EC new unit of account is a basket of currencies called the European unit of account (ECU), with the 1975 introduction of the European Currency Unit, laid the foundation of the European currency unit. When the March 13, 1979 launched the European Monetary System, while the European unit of account formula remains the same, but added a review clause and the European unit of account (renamed the European Currency Unit) is currently the only unit of account EC ; central element of the European monetary system, the European currency unit has a composite basket of the European Community and the European units of equal composition of the European unit of account; a review every five years, or in accordance with the needs, changes in the scope of any trickery currency in more than 25% .
